An incredibly special bespoke DEED bag for an incredibly special customer! This DEED bag has been lovingly made-to-order for best-selling Australian author Tess Woods, to take with her on her upcoming Australian book tour. Her specific brief was to have a bag which matched the cover of her latest novel, 'Love and Other Battles'. The cover is so pretty - how could we refuse!
The rose appliques on the bag have been made using the ancient technique called 'broderie perse', which evolved in the eighteenth century, as a way of showcasing and preserving precious swatches of Indian fabrics which were brought back to Europe. It involves cutting out individual flowers and then backing them with solid coloured motifs - which can create a 3-D effect. The edges have been left frayed and unbasted to give an illusion of movement and a sense of Bohemian luxury. And finally, by free-sewing inside the rose in large funnelling swirls, we've added some more depth and interest. The olive leaves have been traced from trees in our local neighbourhood!
Thank you Tess for thinking of DEED bags. It has been an absolute pleasure to make your bag, and we wish you so much success with your book!
